Roberts golden at MEAC Champs

Warren, Denoon win in US too

Khemani Roberts struck gold for Coppin State University at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships in Maryland, USA, on Friday. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete topped the women's pentathlon field with a total of 3,353 points.

Roberts clocked 9.55 seconds in the 60 metres hurdles, cleared the bar at 1.62m in the high jump, threw 11.87m in the shot put, produced a 5.00m leap in the long jump, and returned a time of two minutes, 39.03 seconds in the 800m.

Roberts was also on the podium in the high jump event, getting over the bar at 1.70m to bag bronze. Another T&T/Coppin State athlete, Haysean Cowie-Clarke was 11th overall in the men's 60m dash in 6.94 seconds.

In Arizona, Portious Warren was golden in the Northern Arizona Tune Up women's shot put event. The Central Arizona College sophomore topped the field with an indoor best 16.36m throw. In the weight throw, Warren produced a 15.70m effort to finish 14th.

Central Arizona College freshman, Jeminise Parris clocked a personal best 8.45 seconds to seize silver in the women's 60m hurdles.

At the Artie O'Connor Invitational in New York, Zakiya Denoon ran away with women's 200m gold, the Monroe College sprinter stopping the clock at 24.15 seconds.

Andre Marcano claimed men's 60m silver in 6.84. There was bronze for Dawnel Collymore in the women's 800m, the Monroe College student getting home in 2:19.39. And in the men's 200m, Adrian Crichlow was 16th overall in 22.65.

In South Carolina, University of Alabama junior Ruebin Walters got to the line in a personal best 7.74 seconds to pick up silver in the Clemson Last Chance Invitational men's 60m hurdles. Marissa Gale was eighth fastest in the women's 400m, the St Augustine's University student producing a 57.26 seconds run.

Tsai-Anne Joseph earned women's 60m silver at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge. The University of Missouri sophomore clocked 7.77 seconds. Joseph snapped up bronze in the 200m in 25.94. University of Missouri junior Jonathan Holder was sixth in the men's 60m final in 7.10 seconds. He had clocked 7.08 in the preliminary round.

At the Louisiana State University (LSU) Twilight meet, LSU freshman Akanni Hislop finished fourth in the men's 60m final in 6.83 seconds. Another T&T sprinter, Shermund Allsop was eighth in 6.90. In the qualifying round, Hislop, Allsop and LSU's Xavier Mulugata clocked 6.87, 6.94 and 6.98, respectively. Mulugata was 11th fastest, and did not progress to the championship race.

And in Ohio, Tiffin University junior Kevin Roberts finished sixth in the Kent State Tune-up men's long jump event with a 6.98m leap.
