Callender, Badal shine

Emmanuel Callender produced a solid run to bag bronze in the men's 100 metres dash at the GC Foster Classic in Kingston, Jamaica, on Saturday. The Trinidad and Tobago sprinter clocked a season's best 10.19 seconds to finish behind Jamaica's Kemar Bailey-Cole, the winner in 10.06, and Jamaican-born Bahrain athlete Andrew Fisher (10.16).

In an earlier 100m race, Callender got to the line in 10.36 seconds to finish second. Anguillan-born British sprinter Zharnel Hughes won in 10.12.

Another T&T athlete, Nathan Farinha finished fourth in section two and 10th overall in the men's 200m in 21.21 seconds. His twin brother, Jonathan Farinha was 19th in 21.69.

At the USA Track & Field (USATF) Hershey Youth Indoor Championships, in New York, Tamia Badal clocked 8.34 seconds to strike gold in the girls' 17-18 55m hurdles. In the preliminary round, the T&T athlete produced an 8.60 run to lead all qualifiers into the final. Badal also competed in the 17-18 200m event, finishing 12th overall in 25.96.

Tamia's younger sister, Taejha Badal seized silver in the girls' 13-14 55m dash in a personal best 7.27 seconds. She had clocked 7.41 in the qualifying round.

Taejha just missed out on the podium in the 13-14 200m event. She produced a 25.45 seconds run to finish fourth in the final. In the preliminaries, Taejha got home in 25.49.
