Michelle-Lee, Keshorn take top awards

Mark Pouchet :: Trinidad Express :: 19.03.2017

"I am very proud and blessed right now".

Racquel Ahye, mother of 2016 First Citizens Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year Michelle-Lee Ahye, was filled with emotion, speaking after the one hour-and-a-half-long show at Queen's Hall Friday night. "This is a very special award for her (Michelle-Lee). She works hard to represent this country so I am very proud today for her achieving this award."

Ahye's male counterpart was another track and field athlete, T&T's lone medallist at the Rio Olympics Keshorn Walcott, who was also absent Friday.

"Hard work pays off and he is extremely proud to represent the red, white and black of Trinidad and Tobago and he is looking forward to bringing future success to us as a nation and a country and the Caribbean," said National Association of Athletic Administrations (NAAA) chief administrative officer Kabir Hosein, who received the award on Walcott's behalf.
