Prieto, Guevara golden in TexasKwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 01.04.2017Mauricia Prieto and Asa Guevara were golden at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Springtime meet in Texas, USA, last weekend. Prieto topped the women's 200 metres field, the South Plains College athlete getting home in 23.84 seconds. Another Trinidad and Tobago athlete, Aeisha McDavid was 30th overall in 27.25. Guevara, a student at UTEP, won the men's 200m in 21.06 seconds. McDavid clocked 14.84 for seventh spot in the women's 100m hurdles. And in the shot put, McDavid finished ninth with a 12.53 metres throw. Also in Texas, Infinite Tucker produced a 14.10 seconds run to secure third spot in the Roadrunner Invitational men's 110m hurdles. The Texas A&M University student also competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing 11th overall in 55.31. At the Miami Hurricane Invitational in Florida, Breon Mullings finished first in his section and fourth overall in the men's 400m in 47.78 seconds. His University of Miami teammate, Trishelle Leacock was 10th fastest in the women's 200m in 24.20. In South Carolina, Stephen Cadogan was fourth in the Winthrop Adidas Invitational men's 400m event in 49.30 seconds. The Kingsborough Community College sophomore had clocked 49.03 in the qualifying round. University of Alabama student Domonique Williams was third in her section and fifth overall in the Florida State Relays women's 200m in 23.85 seconds. At the Victor Lopez Classic, in Texas, Louisiana Tech University's Elia Nero finished fifth in the women's 400m in 56.14 seconds. Grambling State University's Jeunice Maxime was 27th overall in the women's 200m in 25.44 and 47th in the 100m in 12.72. In Alabama, Tiffin University junior Kevin Roberts finished eighth in the Montevallo Falcon Track & Field Classic men's long jump event with a 6.89m leap. In Texas, Abilene Christian University's Jessica King was 11th fastest in the Wes Kittley Invitational women's 200m in 25.27 seconds. And two weekends ago, at the Louisiana Classic, Nero was third in the women's 800m in two minutes, 13.30 seconds and 10th in the 400m in 56.80.
