HAT-TRICK HORSFORD!Golden Gittens shines on debutKwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 17.04.2017Tyriq Horsford produced a stunning series of throws at the Ergilio Hato Stadium here in Willemstad, Curacao, yesterday, en route to a hat-trick of Carifta Games boys' under-18 javelin triumphs. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete opened the competition with a massive 76.50 metres effort, smashing his own Games record in the process. The throw is also a new national youth record. But not satisfied with just one big throw, Horsford beat the 70-metre mark four more times—70.46m, 75.17m, 72.77m and 73.21m. The 17-year-old Tobago field athlete was unchallenged for the title. Bahamians Sean Rolle (65.51m) and Michael Angelo Bullard (63.84m) picked up silver and bronze, respectively. Tyra Gittens was absolutely dominant in the girls' open heptathlon, the T&T athlete striking gold with a two-day total of 4,854 points.
