Pereira edges Baboolal in Point Fortin 7.5K

It was a race to finish and crossing first in the Point Fortin 7.5K run was Collin Jeron Pereira just ahead of Shirvan Baboolal on Sunday morning.

Pereira clocked 27 minutes and 49 seconds to win by a mere two seconds from Shirvan Baboolal (27.51). In third place was Kelvin Johnson in 28.52. Curtis Cox finished fourth in 30.21 with Ted John (30:36) fifth, Shurlon Williams (30:47) sixth.

Seventh was Lionel Dandrade (31.21), eighth was Brian Maynard (31.25), ninth was Guswil George (31.40) and tenth was Anthony Roster (33.31).

In the absence of last year's women's champion Tonya Nero, Christine Regis of Athletics Central ran comfortably on the streets of Point Fortin, which is in the midst of its borough celebration, won the crown in 37.16.

In second place was April Francis in 38.05 with Leisl Puckerin placing third in 40.22. Candice Bekaroo was fourth in 40.51, fifth was Melissa Guevara (41.54), sixth was Debra Agong (43.15) and seventh was Javanah Moreno (43.42).

Also among the top ten finishers were Ifeula Gooding (44.06) in eighth, Anika Walker (44.38) in ninth and closely followed by Wendy Shallow (44.38) in tenth.

Bryan Francis sped with the top prize in the Point Fortin Borough 7.5K Walk in a time of 49.28. Anthony Francis (51.09) was second and Kenny Blanche (53.46), third.

In women's category, 12-year-old Requell Richards topped all other in 1.05.13, second was Janice Gooding (1.05.25) and third was Mavis Baird (1.06.12).
