Leading T&T athletes sprinter Michelle-Lee Ahye and shot putter Cleopatra Borel are listed on the provisional start list for the second IAAF Diamond League meeting in Shanghai, China on Saturday.

Ahye will race in the women's 100 metres event which will feature double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson, where two other Jamaicans are listed to compete in Veronica Campbell-Brown and Christania Williams. The others to face the starter are Americans Tori Bowie,Tianna Bartoletta and Morolake Akinosun, and Ivory Coast duo Murielle Ahoure and Marie-Josee Ta Lou.

Ahye will be making her first appearance this season in the Diamond meet while Thompson opened her account last week at Doha Diamond League opener, continuing her dominance with a season-best 22.19 seconds to easily win the women's 200m.

Borel, who competed last weekend, will contest the women's shot put against a field with a few familiar faces in Olympic bronze medallist Hungarian Anita Marton and Yuliya Leantsiuk of Belarus. Both Marton and Leantsiuk competed last week, finishing second and fourth, respectively. Borel was fifth.

Last week and on the weekend was also an eventful period for local track and field athletes.

On Saturday, both Renny Quow and Reyare Thomas starred on the track winning gold in their respective events at the Ole Miss Classic in Mississippi, in the US. Quow won the men's 400m, clocking 46.38 seconds while Thomas won gold in a time of 23.31 in the women's 200m.

Warren rewrites NJCAAA shot put record

At the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region I Track & Field Championships in Arizona, on Thursday, Portious Warren erased a 27-year-old record, when the Central Arizona College athlete threw a personal best 16.90m to grab gold in the women's shot put, to better the 16.86m NJCAA standard achieved in 1990 by Nigerian Grace Apiafi.

"I feel relieved and thankful. Mainly because since last year's outdoor season my coach and I have been trying to get the record. And to finally say that I have done it's just an amazing feeling," said Warren earlier this week.

She copped silver in the discus with a 41.84m toss and picked up another silver in the javelin at 38.79m. Warren was fourth in the hammer throw with a 48.39m effort.

Central Arizona College freshman Jeminise Parris scored double gold and a silver at the NJCAA Region I meet. She crossed first in the women's 100m hurdles in 13.64 seconds and in the 100m dash, clocking 11.84 and then finished runner-up in the 400m hurdles in 1:03.14.
