Richards clocks windy 19.98Kwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 13.05.2017Trinidad and Tobago's Jereem Richards clocked a wind-assisted 19.98 seconds to top his men's 200 metres qualifying heat, on day one of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships in South Carolina, USA, on Thursday. Richards, a student at University of Alabama, was the fastest of the nine qualifiers for today's final, and will run in lane six. His 19.98 scorcher is the second fastest wind-aided half-lap clocking this year and the fourth fastest overall. Another T&T athlete, Akanni Hislop finished fourth in heat four in a windy 20.88. The Louisiana State University (LSU) freshman was 17th overall. LSU's Xavier Mulugata and University of Missouri's Jonathan Holder were 33rd and 34th, respectively, clocking 21.90 and 22.04. Both times were windy. Alabama's Ruebin Walters clocked 52.74 seconds to finish fifth in heat two and 10th overall in the men's 400m hurdles, missing out on a championship race lane by one spot. Texas A&M University freshman Infinite Tucker was 11th fastest in 53.15. University of Kentucky junior Kayelle Clarke got to the line in a windy 23.10 seconds for 12th spot overall in the women's 200m preliminaries. Walters and Tucker were in action late yesterday in the qualifying round of the men's 110m hurdles. Clarke clashed with Missouri sophomore Tsai-Anne Joseph in the opening women's 100m qualifying heat. Hislop and Holder faced the starter in the men's 100m heats.
