Baptiste wins in Florida

Kelly-Ann Baptiste clocked a season's best 11.10 seconds to win a women's 100 metres race at the Pure Athletics Elite Meet in Florida, USA, on Saturday.

Another Trinidad and Tobago track star, Machel Cedenio finished second in section one and third overall in the men's 400m in 46.36 seconds. Jarrin Solomon was 10th fastest on the day with a 47.24 run.

At the Sun Belt Conference Championships, in Texas, Chelsea Charles ran away with gold in the women's 400m with a personal best 53.51 seconds clocking. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock senior had topped the qualifying round in 54-flat.

At the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Championships, in Maryland, Stephen Cadogan completed an impressive double. The Kingsborough Community College athlete won the men's 400m in 49.01 seconds and the men's 800m in one minute, 58.43 seconds. In the 400m preliminaries, Cadogan clocked 49.57. And in the 800m qualifying round, he produced a 1:57.80 run.

Cadogan also earned two relay golds. He anchored the Kingsborough men's 4x400m team to victory in 3:20.01. And in the 4x800m, Cadogan performed third leg duties in his team's 8:02.48 golden run. Kingsborough earned 161 points to secure the men's team title.

In Arizona, Nyoshia Cain followed up on her Desert Challenge women's T44 200m victory in a wind-assisted 28 seconds flat with T44 100m gold in 13.61. The 2016 Paralympic Games T44 100m bronze medallist also competed in the Desert Challenge T44 long jump, claiming silver with a 4.18 metres leap.

At the Hillsdale Last-Chance Classic, in Michigan, Kevin Roberts struck gold in the men's long jump with a 7.13m leap. The Tiffin University junior produced a 14.69m effort for bronze in the triple jump. At the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) 2nd to Last Chance Meet, also in Michigan, Roberts finished fourth in the men's long jump at 7.37m.

In St Martin, Lalonde Gordon captured double silver at the Meeting Elite de Saint Martin. The double Olympic bronze medallist finished second in the men's 200m in 20.58 seconds, and did the same in the 400m with a 46.14 clocking. Gordon's T&T teammate, Kai Selvon was first in her section and fourth overall in the women's 200m in 23.26.

At the West Texas A&M Last Chance meet, in the United States, Micah Ballantyne topped his men's 100m qualifying heat in a personal best 10.36 seconds, but opted out of the final. The Adams State University sprinter earned 200m silver in a wind-assisted 21.14.

At the ECAC/IC4A Championships, in New Jersey, Haysean Cowie-Clarke bagged men's 100m bronze in 10.61 seconds. The Coppin State University senior was 12th overall in the 200m in 21.86.

Coppin State sophomore Khemani Roberts cleared 1.71 metres for fifth spot in the women's high jump. Coppin State freshman Aaron Lewis was 14th fastest in the men's 110m hurdles in 14.77 seconds. And another Coppin State student, Mark London returned a time of 1:54.19 for 34th spot in the men's 800m.

In Texas, Elia Nero clocked 2:12.46 for fourth spot in the Conference USA Outdoor Championship women's 800m final. The Louisiana Tech University sophomore was faster in the preliminaries, completing her two laps of the track in 2:10.39.

University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) junior Asa Guevara was ninth overall in the men's 400m in 47.76 seconds, just missing out on a lane in the championship race. Western Kentucky University's Peli Alzola clocked 11.74 to finish ninth in the women's 100m qualifying round. And in the 200m, Alzola was 11th in 24.20.

At the Southland Conference Championships, in Louisiana, Sterlen Paul finished fifth in the men's 800m final in 1:52.69. He had clocked 1:52.56 in the preliminaries. Paul's Abilene Christian University (ACU) teammate, Jessica King was 35th overall in the women's 200m in 25.66 seconds.

In North Carolina, Odou Hazel won the Aggie Last Chance men's 400m "E" race in 47.17 seconds. The Claflin University student was seventh fastest in the one-lap.

At the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships, in Georgia, Breon Mullings finished 12th overall in the men's 400m in 47.86 seconds. His University of Miami teammate, Trishelle Leacock was 29th in the women's 400m in 58.42.
