Cox, Evans capture Eastern Credit Union 15k titles

VETERAN local road runner Curtis Cox and Sjaelan Evans won the respective men's and women's 15k titles when the Eastern Credit Union's 29th Annual Road Race was held on Sunday .

Cox clocked 49 minutes and 53 seconds in the race that began at the Arima Velodrome and ended outside of the Eastern Credit Union's St Joseph headquarters . 

Snatching silver was Collin Pereira in 51:21 and Richard Jones took bronze in 51:51 . 

Among the women, Evans won gold easily in one hour four minutes and one second. Christine Regis grabbed silver in 1:06:29 and Salina Scott earned bronze in 1:07:02 . 

In the 5k event that started in Tacarigua and finished in St Joseph, Matthew Hagley and Samantha Shukla won the men's and women's titles respectively. Hagley stopped the clock in 16:08, finishing ahead of Shirvan Baboolal (16:16) and Kelvin Johnson (17:04) . 

Shukla won in 19:44, followed by April Franis in 21:40 and Janeil Bailey in 22:05 .

Women: 1.Sjaelan Evans (1:04:01); 2.Christine Regis (1:06:29); 3.Salina Scott (1:07:02) . 

5K Men: 1.Mattew Hagley (16:08); 2 Shirvan Baboolal (16:16); 3.Kelvin Johnson (17:04) . 

Women: 1.Samantha Shukla (19:44); 2.April Franis (21:40); 3.Janeil Bailey (22:05).
