Denoon does sprint double; NJCAA 100 hurdles gold for Parris

Zakiya Denoon secured the women's sprint double for Monroe College on the third and final day of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Kansas, USA, yesterday.

Denoon grabbed gold in the women's 100 metres dash, the Trinidad and Tobago sprinter getting to the line in 11.59 seconds. South Plains College sophomore Mauricia Prieto was 10th overall in 11.93, and Neosho County Community College's Shania Alexander was 17th fastest at 12.16.

Denoon clocked 24.01 seconds for top spot in the women's 200m. Prieto bagged bronze in 24.17, while Alexander finished 17th overall in 25.54.

Jeminise Parris dominated her rivals in the women's 100m hurdles final, running away from the field to strike gold in 13.49 seconds. Parris also competed in the 400m hurdles, the Central Arizona College freshman returning a time of one minute, 06.91 seconds for ninth spot.

Prieto was part of the South Plains quartet that seized silver in the women's 4x400m relay in 3:44.74. Parris' Central Arizona earned fourth spot in 3:47.54. And Shania Alexander's Neosho County Community College finished 15th overall in 4:14.21.
