Serville ShinesTeen quartermiler wins women’s one-lapKwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 20.05.2017Rae-Anne Serville made light work of the opposition in the NAAA Sunshine Development Meet women's 400 metres at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, late on Friday. Just 15, Serville opted to skip the girls' under-18 one-lap and compete instead in the open event. Yet, there were no challengers, the Memphis Pioneers athlete winning in 55.78 seconds for a comfortable cushion on second-placed Renee Stoddard (57.02). Patrice Richards of Neon Wolves claimed top spot in the girls' under-18 400m in 57.59. University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) quartermiler Darren Alfred captured the men's 400m title in 47.30 seconds. Memphis runner Akil Boisson clocked 50.32 to win the boys' under-18 400m. Kamaria Durant outclassed her rivals in the women's 200m, bolting to the line in 23.58 seconds for a wide margin of victory. Durant's Simplex teammate, Onika Murray was a distant second in 24.49. Rebirth's Marcus Duncan won the men's 200m in 21.15 seconds. In the latter stages of the half-lap race, Duncan battled to keep teenager Jerod Elcock at bay. The experienced sprinter prevailed in the end, with Elcock settling for silver in 21.22. Dillon Bernard was the fastest on show in the boys' under-20 200m, the Concorde athlete winning in 21.69. Jahi Hernandez was first in his section and second overall in 21.91. Abilene's Courtney Bascombe claimed the men's 100m title, the Vincentian sprinter clocking 10.65 seconds. Another Abilene athlete, Adell Colthrust matched Bascombe's time, the Carifta Games under-18 champion grabbing Sunshine under-20 gold with a 10.65 run of his own. Mustangs athlete Daniel Gibbs returned a time of one minute, 55.47 seconds for top spot in the men's 800m. Cherisse Murray was in a competition of her own in the women's shot put, taking the title with a 15.11 metres effort. Each of Murray's five legal throws went past the 14-metre mark, while the best for runner-up Latoya Gilding was 12.63m. Andwuelle Wright produced a 7.01m leap for gold in the men's long jump. Kristian La Touche topped the men's high jump, the Memphis athlete clearing the bar at 1.90m. And University of the West Indies (UWI) thrower Kesean Phillips was victorious in the men's discus with a 47.08m effort.
