WALCOTT OPENS STRONG

Prefontaine bronze for Ahye

Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott triumphed in his 2017 season-opener at the Golden Javelin meet in Vantaa, Finland, yesterday. The 2012 Olympic champion landed the spear 84.16 metres for gold in the men's javelin. Finland's 2007 world champion Tero Pitkamaki picked up silver with an 83.51m effort

Meanwhile, Michelle-Lee Ahye bagged bronze in the women's 100 metres dash at the Prefontaine Classic IAAF Diamond League meet, in Oregon, USA. The T&T track star got to the line in a wind-assisted 10.97 seconds. The following wind was measured at 2.1 metres per second—marginally above the 2.0 allowable limit. American Morolake Akinosun grabbed gold in 10.94, with silver going to Murielle Ahoure, the Ivorian clocking 10.96 to finish just ahead of Ahye

In Kentucky, Domonique Williams emerged as the fourth fastest qualifier in the women's 400m at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 East Preliminary meet.
