Cain strikes 100m gold in World qualifier

Nyoshia Cain on Saturday night added another medal to her tally, striking gold in the women's 100 metres T43/44 event at the United States Paralympics Track and Field National Championships in California, USA.

The Paralympic Games T44 100m bronze medallist clocked 13.44 seconds to win the dash. The day before Cain won gold in the 200m, getting to the line in 28.22 and a bronze in the long jump, leaping 3.73m.

Her impressive showing qualifies the local athlete for the World Para Athletics Championships London, carded for later this year.

At the British Athletics League Premiership Division meet, in London, England, also on Saturday, Che Richards won the men's long jump for his British club, Woodford Green.

Richards, a student at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, leaped 7.63m to take gold. The T&T jumper also had a 7.61m leap in the competition.

Local sprinter Jarrin Solomon crossed in 46.39 in the men's 400m to claim silver on Friday at the Nordic Challenge, in Denmark.

Last Monday, three-time Carifta Games javelin champion T&T's Tyriq Horsford got gold at the United Kingdom Javelin Carnival in England. Horsford tossed the spear 73.85m to reach the top of the podium in the boys' Under-18 javelin event.

Nyoshia Cain shows off the three medals she copped at the US Paralympic trials this past weekend. She won gold in the 100m and 200m events and brought home bronze in the Long Jump event. In the process, she qualified for the World Championships in London later this year.
