Elcock takes 200 thrillerKwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 12.06.2017In a classic battle, pitting 100 speed against 400 strength, Jerod Elcock outsprinted his Abilene teammate Jacob St Clair in the NGC NAAA National Junior Track and Field Championship boys' under-20 200 metres final at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, yesterday. Pushed to the line by an illegal 3.4 metres per second following wind, Elcock stopped the clock at 20.75 seconds for a fine sprint double. St Clair, winner of the 400m event on Saturday, gave a big effort but was beaten on the line by his friend and Queen's Royal College colleague. St Clair clocked 20.77, with bronze medallist Jalen Purcell getting home in 21.02. Khalifa St Fort opted out of the girls' under-20 200m final, and Shikyla Walcott pounced on the opportunity for a national title, the Simplex athlete winning in a wind-aided 24.27 seconds.
