Landeau ready for 800 defence

Nicholas Landeau warmed up for the defence of his NGC/Sagicor National Open Championship men's 800 metres title with a new personal best at the Watford Gold Standard meet, in England, last Wednesday. The Trinidad and Tobago half-miler completed his two laps of the track in one minute, 48.34 seconds to finish fifth in the men's 800m "A" race.

"I was second in the Under-23 age group," a proud Landeau told the Express. "It's my first-ever sub-1:49 run. It was a very fast race, with the pacemaker going through 400 metres at 50.8 seconds. All that was left to do was keep in touch with the pack and finish strong."

And that he did, Landeau's fine run bettering his previous best of 1:49.31. He produced that clocking in Belgium last month.

Landeau was back in action on the weekend, competing at the England Athletics Under-23 Championships, in Bedford. The 22-year-old athlete clocked 1:49.39—the third fastest run of his career—to finish fourth in the 800m final.
