AHYE IN RECORD RUN!Kwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 25.06.2017Michelle-Lee Ahye and Khalifa St Fort were in the spotlight as records tumbled in the NGC/Sagicor/NAAA National Open Track and Field Championship women's 100 metres final, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, late yesterday. Ahye struck gold in a national record time of 10.82 seconds, getting to the line ahead of former record holder Kelly-Ann Baptiste, the silver medallist in 10.88. Nineteen-year-old Khalifa St Fort clocked 11.06 to capture bronze and improve on her own T&T junior record. Ahye was pushed to her scorcher by Baptiste. The two battled tenaciously in front of the main stand, but it was Ahye who was stronger in the second half of the race, the Rebirth sprinter celebrating as she crossed the finish line first for a successful defence of her title. Emmanuel Callender captured his first national open men's 100m title with a 10.10 seconds season's best. The Jamaica-based sprinter upset former champion Keston Bledman, who had to settle for silver in 10.15, the same time recorded by bronze medallist Rondel Sorrillo.
