Jereem Sizzles

200 gold in championship record time

Kwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 26.06.2017

Jereem Richards captured the NGC/Sagicor/NAAA National Open Track and Field Championship men's 200 metres title, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, yesterday. The Abilene sprinter completed the half-lap race in 20.15 seconds—a new championship record.

Richards was forced to work hard for the win, Kyle Greaux pushing him all the way to the finish line. A relieved Richards thrust his left arm in the air to celebrate the win. Greaux was a contented silver medallist, his labour on the day earning him a personal best 20.19 clocking. Dan-Neil Telesford bagged bronze in 20.50 for an Abilene podium sweep. "I knew Kyle was in good shape," Richards told the Express after the half-lap final, "so I knew it wasn't going to be easy.

"I'm very satisfied," the NCAA Outdoor Championship bronze medallist continued.
