Baptiste grabs Swiss gold

Kelly-Ann Baptiste was the class of the women's 100 metres field at the Spitzen Leichtathletik meet in Luzern, Switzerland, yesterday. The Trinidad and Tobago track star struck gold in 11.16 seconds, finishing well ahead of silver medallist Aaliyah Brown (11.38) of the United States. Bronze was bagged by Jamaican Jura Levy (11.41).

Another Jamaican sprinter, Remona Burchell, topped the women's 100m "B" race in 11.23 seconds. ­Second spot went to Venezuelan ­Andrea Purica (11.39).

Baptiste has a season's best time of 10.88 seconds—the clocking she produced in finishing second to Michelle-Lee Ahye (10.82) at last month's NGC/Sagicor/NAAA National Open Track and Field Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium here in Port of Spain.
