Baptiste sprints to Swiss title

T&T's Kelly-Ann Baptiste raced to victory in the women's 100 metres at Spitzen Leichtathletik in Luzern, Switzerland, yesterday.

Baptiste stopped the clock at 11.16 seconds to finish ahead of American Aaliyah Brown in 11.38 and Jamaica's Jura Levy (11.41) in heat A in three time heats.

Jamaican Remona Burchell, winner of heat B in 11.23, had the second fastest time and placed just behind the local sprinter. Brown had the third best time of 11.38.

The win follows up Batispte's second place finish in the dash at the NGC/ Sagicor National Association of Athletics Administrations Open Track and Field Championships on the weekend of June 23-25 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port-of-Spain.

Baptiste, the former record holder, won silver in 10.88 behind Michelle-Lee Ahye, who struck gold in a national record time of 10.82.

Baptiste was also in winners' row at the JN/Racers Grand Prix meet in Jamaica clocking 11.13, beating American Jenna Prandini in 11.16 and Natasha Morrison of Jamaican (11.26) to the line. RK
