Hackett bolts to ‘Pompey’ sprint double

Semoy Hackett was in dominant mood at the Aliann Pompey Invitational, in Guyana, on Saturday. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete was unchallenged in capturing the women's sprint double.

Hackett got to the line in 11.16 seconds to win the 100 metres final. American Tawanna Meadows was a distant second in 11.33, with third spot going to T&T's Reyare Thomas in 11.34. Another T&T athlete, Zakiya Denoon clocked 11.91 to finish seventh.

Hackett whipped her rivals in the 200m event, the Tobago sprinter getting home in a season's best 22.79 seconds. Barbadian Jade Bailey was second in 23.49. Thomas topped the 200m "B" race with a 23.45 clocking, forcing Denoon to settle for the runner-up spot in 23.64.

Hackett also completed the women's sprint double at the Tru Fit Miami Invitational, in Florida, USA, two Saturdays ago. She clocked a season's best 11.11 seconds in the 100m.

Emmanuel Callender seized silver in the Pompey Invitational men's 200m event, the T&T sprinter producing a 20.77 seconds run to finish behind Guyana's Winston George, the gold medallist in a personal best 20.41. T&T's Dan-Neil Telesford was sixth in 21.45.
