MEDAL RUSHBeach soccer girls, swimmer Thompson top off successful weekMark Pouchet :: Trinidad Express :: 22.07.2017Jeron Thompson and the Team TTO girls beach soccer team topped off a successful week for this country's youth and junior athletes when they won bronze and gold respectively at the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) in Nassau, Bahamas yesterday. Those medals took the tally from athletes competing at the CYG, World Para Athletics and the Pan Am Junior Athletics Championships to four gold and four bronze. Last evening, the beach soccer girls effected a spectacular comeback victory over favourites Jamaica after being down 0-4 in the second period to win 6-5 in regulation time. T&T brought the game even by the end of the second period to 4-4. And in a battle of endurance, outlasted the Jamaicans for a 6-5 victory in the third and final period. The Chad Appoo-coached squad reversed the preliminary round result when Jamaica defeated them 5-2. Meanwhile, Thompson copped bronze in the Men's 50m freestyle in a new personal best at the Betty Kenning Aquatic Centre yesterday.
