KESHORN WALCOTT finished fifth in the men's javelin at the Herculis IAAF Diamond League meet in Monaco, yesterday. The 2012 Olympic gold medallist produced his best throw of the competition, 80.15 metres, in round five.

Reigning Olympic champion Thomas Rohler dominated the field, the German striking gold with an 89.17m effort. Rohler also threw 88.91, 87.06 and 86.80 in his impressive series. Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch was second at 85.43m, with third spot going to another German, Johannes Vetter (85.14m).

Walcott struggled in Monaco, the Trinidad and Tobago thrower fouling his first throw and then landing the spear 79.72m in round two. He fouled again in the third round and threw 79.61m in round four. Walcott finally got into the 80s in the penultimate round, the 2016 Olympic bronze medallist throwing 80.15. But in the sixth and final round, he could only manage a 77.10m effort.
