NO LETTING UP - Akeem Stewart looks to 2019 Para gold repeat

AKEEM STEWART has some injury rehab to do, but once recovered, his plans are to attempt a repeat of his London gold medal performances in two years' time at the (2019) World Para Athletics Championships.

"I am going to do rehab. I will then focus on technique and training and (in) 2019 to make the double in the Para World Championship," Stewart said on Tuesday night at Piarco airport, after returning from London along with T&T national teammates Carlos Greene (discus), wheelchair athlete Jabari Knight and 100m Para bronze medallist Nyoshia Cain.

Stewart thanked everyone involved in his success, having had some financial challenges leading up to the London 2017 World Para Athletics Championships, where he won two gold medals and set two new world records, the second of which was a 20-year-old shot put mark on the final day Sunday.

"I want to make a special thanks to God — to be able to go out to London and compete and really do well," Stewart said. "To (be able to) represent my country and make my family and everybody proud."
