Joyful JohnT&T sprint hurdler thrilled with London late callKwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 02.08.2017Deborah John is thrilled with her late call for the 2017 IAAF World Championships here in London, England. "I was extremely happy and grateful to God," the Trinidad and Tobago sprint hurdler told the Express, "when I got the news that I would have another opportunity to represent Him, my family, and my country on a global platform. John did not achieve the 12.98 seconds World Championship qualifying standard. However, a season's best 13.10 clocking earned her an invitation from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) as the sport's world governing body attempted to reach its target of 40 participants in the women's 100 metres hurdles. John produced the 13.10 run in Freeport, Bahamas on July 22—just one day before the end of the qualification period. "I was very hopeful that I would be selected, so even when the deadline had passed I kept on training and told my mum I was packing my bags to go.
