Jereem Richards was beaming as he stood on the podium at the London Stadium, here in England, yesterday. Richards featured in his first IAAF World Championship medal ceremony, the newest Trinidad and Tobago track star receiving his hard-earned men's 200 metres bronze.

On Thursday, Richards battled back from behind with a sizzling run on the straight to finish third in 20.11 seconds. Silver medallist Wayde van Niekerk was credited with the same time, but got the better of Richards by one-thousandth of a second. Turkey's Ramil Guliyev clocked 20.09 to strike gold.

There has been much debate about the half-lap photo finish, with many expressing the view on social media that Richards had secured the silver medal. Yesterday, T&T manager Dexter Voisin actually asked for a review of the results. Afterwards, he told the Express he was satisfied that the correct decision was made.
