Sixth in final, 4 x 1 women call for relay camp

KELLY-ANN BAPTISTE is pleading with the authorities to put a proper programme in place to prepare Trinidad and Tobago relay teams. Baptiste was speaking shortly after anchoring T&T to sixth spot in the IAAF World Championship women's 4x100 metres final at the London Stadium, here in England, yesterday.

"I'm disappointed," Baptiste told the Sunday Express, "because I know we're a hundred times better than that. I don't think anybody here likes making excuses. We love to run fast and love to be on the podium, but we know deep in our hearts the issue is lack of practice. And it's not that I'm bashing our federation (National Association of Athletics Administrations). They're trying. But we need more."

Semoy Hackett, Michelle-Lee Ahye, Khalifa St Fort and Baptiste—running in that order—produced a 42.62 seconds run in the final, a full 59-hundredths of a slower than the 42.03 national record. The T&T standard was established by Baptiste, Ahye, Reyare Thomas and Hackett in their bronze medal run at the 2015 World Champs in Beijing, China.
