REASON TO SUPPORT

4x4 title an eye-opener, says Solomon

Kwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 14.08.2017

A lack of support has been a common theme for Trinidad and Tobago athletes at the 2017 IAAF World Championships here in London, England. Yesterday, Jarrin Solomon, Jereem "The Dream" Richards, Machel Cedenio and anchorman Lalonde Gordon let their feet do the talking, addressing the powers-that-be with gold in the men's 4x400 metres relay.

Solomon, the leadoff runner for T&T, told the Express he is optimistic about a change of attitude.

"Hopefully, this is an eye-opener. When they do support us, they're not wasting their money. When the tax-payers are paying their money it's going to good athletes. We have heart, we have drive. Especially guys like Jereem Richards…if he gets the support he's going to be an Olympic champion. He's got a lot of talent, so if he gets the right support, there's nothing he can't do.

"I want the authorities and the Government to understand," Solomon continued, "that we put out our blood, sweat and tears for the country. When they support, it's not a waste of money.
