Crawford: It’s normal practice...athletes accustomed to travelling economy classAnna Ramdass :: Trinidad Express :: 15.08.2017Olympian Hasely Crawford says it is a normal practice for Trinidad and Tobago athletes to travel economy. He also said many of these athletes get funding and do not account for it and give the impression they are starving for funds. Crawford, who was speaking to the Express by phone yesterday, said it was very kind of Independent Senator Sophia Chote to give up her business class seat to gold medallist Jereem "The Dream" Richards, who was seated in economy at the back of the British Airways plane on the return flight from London, England, on Monday. However, Crawford said the rest of the team members (not medallists) were all seated in economy, where he too sat with them. Crawford said he introduced himself to Chote at Piarco International Airport as they both waited for their flight to London recently. He said he told her he was a "fan" of her parliamentary contributions and they spoke about sport and the games. He said on the return flight, Chote approached him and offered her seat to Richards, which was no problem. Crawford said Richards was supposed to go back to the United States (Alabama University), but he wanted to come home to Trinidad to be with his family and therefore his return ticket was booked with the returning members of the team in economy.
