‘Point’ celebrates JereemWorld Championships hero appeals for Mahaica Oval completionCarolyn Kissoon :: Trinidad Express :: 19.08.2017AS POINT FORTIN yesterday celebrated the achievements of homeboy Jareem Richards at the IAAF World Championships in London, the athlete used it as an opportunity to appeal for the completion of the Mahaica Oval, a sporting complex in the borough. Richards was treated to a grand celebration through the streets of Point Fortin. He was also presented with the key to the borough by Mayor Abdon Mason. Apart from winning bronze in the men's 200 metres, Richards was one of five gold medallists in the national 4x400m relay team at the championships; the others were Jarrin Solomon, Machel Cedenio, Lalonde Gordon and Renny Quow — the latter who ran in their qualifying heat for the final. Speaking to the media, Richards said the unfinished complex was necessary to encourage youths in the community to engage in sporting activities.
