Walcott 5th, Borel 7th in Diamond League

Trinidad Guardian :: 25.08.2017

Keshorn Walcott and Cleopatra Borel both endured disappointing performances at the Diamond league in Zurich yesterday. It was the penultimate event of the season and the T&T duo finished down the pack in their events.

Walcott's best throw of 85.11m was well off the top and he had to settle for a fifth place finish. The event was won by the Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch, who threw 88.50m. He was able to defeat the German Olympian victor Thomas Rohler (86.59m), as well as the German World Champion Johannes Vetter (86.15m). Rohler took home silver while Finland's Tero Pitkämäki won bronze with a throw of 86.57m.

Competing in the Women's Shot Put final, Borel finished seventh. Her best throw was 17.85m. The event was won by China's Lijiao Gong, who threw 19.60m to win gold. Hungary's Anita Márton was a distant second with a throw of 18.54m, while Belarus' Yuliya Leantsiuk placed third.

Keshorn took to social media afterwards saying, "Not bad to finish up the 2017 DL season, referring to his fifth place finish…up next last competition on Saturday in Finland."
