Telesford best at University WorldsKwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 28.08.2017Dan-Neil Telesford was the best Trinidad and Tobago track and field athlete on show at the World University Games in Taipei, Taiwan. On Saturday, Telesford finished fifth in the men's 200 metres final. Running into a strong 3.8 metres per second headwind on the straight, the 26-year-old sprinter got to the line in 21.03 seconds. Frenchman Jeffrey John was golden in 20.93, finishing ahead of Canadian James Linde (20.96) and Slovakia's Jan Volko (20.99). Less than two hours earlier, Telesford was third in the second of three semi-final heats in 20.92 seconds, progressing to the championship race as a "fastest loser". And in Friday's opening round, Telesford clocked 21.04 for second spot in heat three and automatic qualification for the semis. Darren Alfred was also a finalist in Taipei. The T&T quartermiler finished eighth in the men's 400m final in 47.93 seconds. Luguelin Santos was the class of the field, the Dominican Republic athlete grabbing gold in 45.24. Cuba's Yoandys Lescay (45.31) earned silver, with bronze going to Poland's Rafat Omelko (45.56).
