JEREEM "The Dream" Richards is going pro! The Trinidad and Tobago track star has signed a deal with sports goods giants Adidas, forfeiting his final season of eligibility on the American collegiate circuit.

"After such a successful 2017 season representing the University of Alabama and also representing Trinidad and Tobago in the 2017 World Championships," said Richards in a social media post, yesterday, "I would like to thank my family and friends and everyone for supporting me this year. Without you, it would not be possible.

"I'm ready to start a new leaf in my life right now," he continued, "and I'm ready to announce that I've signed a professional contract with Adidas."

Richards was on fire in 2017, capping off a superb season with two medals at the IAAF World Champi-onships in London, England, last month.

A jaw-dropping second leg run from Richards propelled T&T to gold in the men's 4x400 metres final, combining with Jarrin Solomon, Machel Cedenio and Lalonde Gordon for a national record time of two minutes, 58.12 seconds. Richards was pivotal for T&T, the 23-year-old athlete producing a 43.60 seconds split.

Earlier in the meet, Richards bagged bronze in the 200m event in 20.11 seconds, becoming only the second T&T sprinter, after 1997 champion Ato Boldon, to earn a World Championship half-lap medal.
