Nero bids for No. 3

Cuban Perez keen to reclaim UWI Half-Marathon title

Kwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 27.10.2017

Tonya Nero will bid for a third First Citizens UWI SPEC International Half-Marathon women's title, early tomorrow. The 28-year-old distance runner is among 1,300-plus athletes who will start the 13.1-mile race, outside UWI SPEC in St Augustine, at 5.30 a.m.

Nero captured the top prize in 2012, leading the women home in one hour, 18 minutes, 20 seconds. Trinidad and Tobago's "Queen of the Road" was the second female to complete the course in 2013, clocking 1:21:29. However, the "winner", Nigerian-born American Mary Akor subsequently received a retroactive doping ban, and Nero was promoted to first.
