Richards wins Alabama 400m

Jereem Richards was among a number of local athletes producing superb performances at the Sanford Alabama Track Challenge in Birmingham, Alabama in the United States on Friday evening.

The national quarter-miler was the fastest across the line in the men's 400 metres overall, clocking 46.13 seconds in the second of two sections in the timed final.

Richards' relay team-mate Renny Quow also reached the podium in the men's 200m, placing third in the men's 200m in a time of 21.23.

Later, Quow ran the first leg in the 4x400m relay event to win gold, partnering with Champion Allison, Okeen Williams and Alex Amankwah to cross first in 3:11.22.

Ruebin Walters of the University of Alabama also came away with two gold medals. First dominating the men's 110m hurdles, winning in 13.51. The senior athlete then ran the third leg in the men's 4x100m and his Alabama unit won in 40.08.

Walters schoolmate Portious Warren bagged a bronze medal in the women's discus event. Her best throw measured 44.24m.

Mauricia Prieto, now running unattached, also had success in placing third in the women's 200m in 24.07.

At the University of North Florida (UNF) Spring Break Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida, Semoy Hackett was impressive in completing a sprint double.

The Empire Athletics sprinter first faced the starter in the women's 100m and won in 11.51. She then raced to victory in the 200m in 23.18.

Sarah Wollaston was active across the way at the University of South Florida (USF) Bulls Invitational in Tampa, competing in three events.

In the women's 100m, the University of Central Florida (UCF) freshman was 12th in a time of 12.09, later crossing 11th in the 200m in 24.77.

Wollaston did not leave empty-handed though, copping a silver with her (UCF) squad in the 4x100m relay. She ran the opening leg helping her team place second in 46.46.

Yesterday, two more T&T athletes competed at the Weems Baskin Invitational on the campus of the University South Carolina at Cregger Track.

Coppin State Senior Mark London was 12th in the men's 1,500m in 4:07.29 while his schoolmate, junior Aaron Lewis qualified for the men's 110m hurdles, clocking the fourth fastest time of 14.15 in the preliminary round. However he did not finish the final.

Lewis also ran in the 4x100m and his Coppin State team placed fifth in 41.60.
