JEHUE FINDING HIS FEET AGAIN

PBs for Portious in Alabama

Jehue Gordon is finding his feet again. The Trinidad and Tobago track star clocked 50.60 seconds to win the men's invitational 400 metres hurdles "B" race at the Mt. SAC Relays in California, USA, on Saturday. The clocking was his fastest in 20 months, and a positive sign as the US-based athlete bids to regain the form that earned him the world title in 2013.

Set back by an abdominal injury in 2015, Gordon had surgery at the end of that season to address the problem. It has been an uphill battle since. Gordon was eliminated in the opening round at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. And in 2017, he had no sub-51 second clockings to his name and finished fifth at the National Open Championships.

Saturday's 50.60 run is a clear indicator that Gordon is progressing well, and en route to reclaiming his rightful place among the planet's best one-lap hurdlers. The 26-year-old is 22nd on the all-time world performance list with his 47.69 seconds T&T record.

Gordon also competed last Thursday, at the Beach Pacific Coast meet, in California. He was fourth in the men's 200m in 21.83 seconds.

Latoya Gilding threw 46.30 metres for sixth spot in the Mt. SAC Relays women's discus event. The Grand Canyon University student was eighth in the shot put with a 13.50m effort. And Quinn-Lee Ralph finished eighth in the men's 100m "B" race in 10.80 seconds.

At the War Eagle Invitational, in Alabama, Janeil Bellille struck gold in the women's 400m hurdles. The T&T athlete got home in 57.74 seconds.

Portious Warren was on fire, producing personal bests (PBs) in the women's discus and shot put events. The University of Alabama junior threw 50.09m to seize silver in the discus. And in the shot put, she produced a 17.21m effort to bag bronze.

Sarah Wollaston was 28th overall in the women's 100m in 12.28 seconds. The University of Central Florida freshman clocked 24.97 for 34th spot in the 200m.

Ruebin Walters performed third leg duties for University of Alabama in the school's 39.98 seconds golden run in the men's 4x100m relay. Walters is a sprint hurdles specialist, and has been in fine form this season. His best showing to date came on April 13 at the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida, where he finished second in the men's 110m hurdles in 13.31 seconds. Thanks to that clocking, Walters is fifth on the 2018 world performance list.

In Texas, Infinite Tucker bagged bronze in the Michael Johnson Invitational men's 400m hurdles in 50.59 seconds. His Texas A&M University teammate, Tyra Gittens threw 12.72m to finish fourth in the open women's shot put. And in the javelin, Gittens was 15th at 31.45m.
