Ashby, Andrews, John grab gold at Combined Champs

Kerlon Ashby, Joel Andrews and Safiya John were all in winners' row at the NGC/NAAA (National Association of Athletics Administrations) Combined Events Championships, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, on the weekend.
Ashby accumulated 5,622 points to emerge victorious in the men's decathlon, the Kaizen Panthers athlete enjoying a comfortable cushion on second-placed Omari Benoit (5,327). Andrews was dominant in the boys' under-20 decathlon. The D'Abadie Progressive athlete completed the 10-discipline event with 5,959 points. Anson Moses totalled 5,567 to pick up silver.

BATTLE OVER THE BARRIERS: Memphis Pioneers athlete Kayla Caesar, centre, en route to victory in the NGC/NAAA Combined Events Championship girls' under-15 heptathlon 60 metres hurdles at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, on Sunday. Caesar clocked a wind-assisted 9.88 seconds, while Point Fortin New Jets athlete Natasha Fox, left, finished second in 9.90. But it was Fox who captured the heptathlon title with 3,801 points. Caesar was second with 2,938, while third spot went to Aalisha Jones (2,664), right, of Oasics.
