Toco Secondary, champion school in Cross CountryWalter Alibey :: Trinidad Guardian :: 19.10.2018Toco Secondary School, expectedly were crowned the Champion School of the 2015 Schools Cross Country event which took place on Sunday at the Queen's Park Savannah in Port of Spain. Toco girls Mickyla Ottley and Donicia Antoine claimed wins in the feature Over-18 and Under-18 events and Otis Baker secured the top spot in the Boys U-18 race that basically set the stage for their overall triumph. Fielding the largest contingent of runners the school from the far east didn't let down their supporters as they were among the top four finishers in almost every division. In the girls over-18 race which comprised a six kilometre dash, Ottley disposed of the field to win in a time of 23 minutes and 57 seconds. Her finish was almost three minutes ahead of her closest challenger Jeminise Parris of St Francois Girls in 26:37 seconds while Toco's Tamika Dann completed the top three in distant 33:18.In the U-18 girls division Antoine, who was the overwhelming favourite, did not disappoint by winning comfortably in a time of 19:54 seconds. Renata Charles of Bishops High School secured the runner-up position in 20:27 while Ruth Henry of Toco was third in 24:43 and St Francois' Johanna Parris took fourth (26:50 seconds.Earlier Johanna Rogers earned St Francois their first gold medal in the U-16 division four kilometres race as she crossed the finish line in 16:04 seconds. Tamille Lewis of Sangre Grande followed Rogers in 17:58 in second place and the Toco pair of Shaquana Olton (18:37 and Saith Tinto (19:31) were third and fourth. And in the girls U-14 event, which was another four kilometres run to the inside of the Queen's Park Savannah, saw Rae Anne Servilla of St Joseph Convent in Port of Spain cruise to victory in a time of 15:30 seconds.She finished ahead of Cassandra Joseph of Toco 16:29 and Caliyah Wallace of St Francois in 16:34. Meanwhile among the boys Otis Baker of Toco outsprinted the field to secure gold in 16:19 in the U-18 boys 6 kilometre race.He was followed by Miles Jackson of Fatima College (17:20) in second and third Justin Parks of Sangre Grande Secondary in 17 minutes and 59 seconds. Tarique Dann was fourth for Toco in 18:20. Toco also failed to be among the top two in the over-18 boys race which was contested over a distance six kilometres.The gold medal in that event went to Joshua James of Valencia Secondary in 16:18 seconds with Joshua Ho of Trinity College (Moka) in 16:21. Kyle Harrison was third in 18:11 but it is uncertain which school he represented, while Fatima's Kadeem Campbell was fourth 18:50 seconds. In the u-16 division- Nicholas David of Belmont Secondary was first in 12:46 and Akeem Marine (Pleasantville Sec) 12:50, Kmanuel Madoo (Toco Sec) 12:51 and Fatima's Andwele Welch 13:04 got second, third and fourth.In the 14 boys race, Fatima again took the winner's prize through Ethan Forde in 13:03. Toco got the other three positions from Jahiem Keller 14:52 in second; Dimitri Richards (15:26) in third and Keivon Williams (16:13) in fourth. |
