T&T's Jereem "The Dream" Richards bagged a bronze in the men's 200 metres event at the Diamond League opener in Doha, Qatar on Friday.

Richards just edged the 2021 Tokyo Olympics 200m champion Andre De Grasse for third spot with his time of 20.142 seconds narrowly holding off the Canadian (20.146) in the dash which was won by reigning world champion Noah Lyles with 19.72.

Lyles edged Fred Kerley (19.75) as the American pair distanced themselves from the rest of the field, comfortably ahead Richards, the 2018 Commonwealth Games 200m champion, and De Grasse, who stayed on for fourth place

Filling the remaining spots were Canadian duo Aaron Brown (20.18) and Jerome Blake (20.25) in fifth and sixth spots, respectively followed by seventh-placed Italian Filippo Tortu in 20.41 seconds.

Qatar's Femi Ogunode did not finish.

In the women's version of the race, Jamaica's Shericka Jackson crossed second with a season-best time of 22.07 behind Tokyo bronze medallist USA's Gabby Thomas, who equalled a Doha Diamond League record after speeding to victory in 21.98. Britain's Dina Asher-Smith placed third running a personal best as well of 22.37 seconds.

Meanwhile over on the field, Grenadian Anderson Peters topped the men's javelin won with a final world-leading throw of 93.07 metres to go fifth on the all-time list.

He beat Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic into second place with a personal-best 90.88m and in third place was German Julian Weber with a season-best 86.09m.
