No T&T athletes at IAAF World U18 ChampsKwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 12.07.2017The IAAF World U18 Championships open this morning in Nairobi, Kenya. Trinidad and Tobago, however, will not be represented at the global meet. National Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA) secretary Dexter Voisin told the Express yesterday that his organisation chose to skip the Under-18 Championships because of funding and logistics challenges. "There was the cost factor in terms of funds available. Also, the same athletes would have gone to the Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas, so getting from Kenya to Bahamas and then competing would have been challenging for those athletes. Additionally, this is the last edition of the World U18 Championships. Given all those factors, we decided on the Commonwealth meet in The World U18 Championships will end on Sunday, July 16, and the Commonwealth Youth Games will start two days later, on July 18. Javelin thrower Tyriq Horsford, sprinters Adell Colthrust and Akilah Lewis, and shot putter Ianna Roach will represent T&T in Nassau.
