Lendore strikes gold

Texas A&M University student Deon Lendore clocked 46.22 seconds to grab men's 400 metres gold, at the 2012 Alumni Gold meet, in Louisiana, USA, on Saturday.

Another Trinidad and Tobago quartermiler, Louisiana State University (LSU) student Ade Alleyne-Forte was sixth in 47.26.

LSU's Shermund Allsop captured the men's B section sprint double. Allsop won the 100m in a wind-aided 10.37 seconds and the 200m in a windy 20.92.

Semoy Hackett got to the line in a wind-aided 11.21 seconds to seize silver in the women's 100m dash. The LSU sprinter also competed in the 200m, finishing third in a windy 23.14.

McNeese State University's Ashlee Smith finished second in the women's discus with a 49.12 metres throw. Smith threw 13.16m for 15th spot in the shot put.

Texas A&M student, Wayne Davis II was second in the men's 110m hurdles in a wind-assisted 13.56 seconds.

Kyron Blaise copped third spot in the LeJuan Simon men's triple jump. The LSU student jumped a windy 16.14m. The event was named in honour of deceased T&T athlete LeJuan Simon.

University of Southern Mississippi student, Richard Collingwood finished fifth in the men's discus (48.84m) and eighth in the shot put (16.01m). His twin brother and Southern Miss teammate, Robert Collingwood was fifth in the shot put (16.45m).

At the Kansas Relays, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student, Durell Busby struck gold in the college men's 110m hurdles in a wind-aided 13.90 seconds.

Iowa Central Community College sprinter, Reyare Thomas won the women's 100m dash in 11.45 seconds.

Wichita State University's Scarla Nero was sixth in the women's 3,000m steeplechase in 11 minutes, 10.87 seconds.

Aleesha Barber finished sixth in the invitational women's 100m hurdles in 13.50 seconds. Iowa Central freshman Dan-Neil Telesford was sixth in the men's 200m in 21.86 seconds. He had clocked 21.66 in the qualifying round. Wichita State's Aaron Leung Woo-Gabriel clocked a windy 11.00 seconds to finish 25th overall in the men's 100m. And in the unseeded men's 800m, Butler Community College sophomore, Devery Robley was 43rd in 1:58.20.

At the Michael Johnson/Dr. Pepper Classic, in Texas, South Plains College athletes, Sparkle McKnight and Janeil Bellille finished one-two in the women's 400m hurdles. McKnight got home in 57.53 seconds, while Bellille clocked 57.66.

Abilene Christian University's Karla Hope produced a 56.99 seconds run for 14th spot in the women's 400m. Baylor University's Gavyn Nero was 16th in the men's 800m in 1:54.77. And in the afternoon men's 200m event, Abilene Christian freshman Osei Alleyne-Forte was 24th in 22.64 seconds.

At the Atlantic Sun Championships, in Florida, Akeela Bravo emerged as the Most Outstanding Performer. The Jacksonville University junior won the women's shot put with a 13.67m throw and the hammer throw with a 52.85m effort. She also competed in the discus, throwing 44.80m to pick up silver. Bravo's efforts helped Jacksonville win the women's team title.

At the Morgan State Legacy meet, in Maryland, Emmanuel Stewart finished second in the men's discus (50.28m), third in the javelin (58.26m) and third in the hammer throw (50.64m). The Morgan State University sophomore was fourth in the shot put (14.53m).

Another T&T/Morgan State athlete, Jeanelle Ovid, cleared the bar at 1.65m to bag bronze in the women's high jump. Two Saturdays ago, at the Don Webster Invitational, in Maryland, Ovid was eighth in the women's 100m hurdles in 16.17 seconds.

Rondel Sorrillo finished second in his section and third overall in the men's 100m dash, at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, in Florida. The T&T sprinter clocked 10.32 seconds. University of Florida student, Jovon Toppin was 18th overall in the men's 400m in 48.91 seconds. Renny Quow faced the starter in section one, but did not finish the race.
