Fan Zone NewsletterNew Records Set In Three Events During 2017Track & Field Retrospect by Bernard Linley :: 27.11.2017 The new national records set in 2017 came in the men`s high jump and 4x400m relay, and in the women's 100 metres. The latter was done by Michelle-Lee Ahye when taking the 100m championships title with 10.82, to better the 10.84 time of Kelly-Ann Baptiste. Also at the championships Kareem Roberts cleared 2.17m to win the high jump title, adding two centimetres to the old mark of 2.15m, set by Kevin Huggins ten years earlier and equalled in 2014 by Kashef Daniel. The third record, on the other hand, received worldwide attention. For it came at the London World Championships in Augut when the TT 4x400m relay team ran 2:58.12 to win the gold medal and remove from the books the 2:58.20 clocking by the national team at the 2015 Beijing World Championships. New record holders and their splits: Jarrin Solomon 46.1, Jereem Richards 43.6, Machel Cedenio 44.4 and Lalonde Gordon 44.02 seconds. Only two junior U20 records were set during the year, by a couple of girl athletes who actually broke the records they themselves had established in 2016. In June Khalifa St Fort ran 100m in 11.06, to better her 11.16 mark. Then in July Tyra Gittens won the Ottawa heptathlon with 5490 points, compared to her previous record score of 5337 points.
